world’s Seven New Wonders. Standing on top of one of the highest peaks in the city means the Christ
statue is highly visible from sites far and wide. There is no one best time to see the statue ,it can be
appreciated 24 hours a day as these photo shows.
As the sun rises and the day is just beginning you’ll find one of the best moments to take in not only

LET US TAKE YOU ON A VIRTUAL TOUR OF CHRIST THE REEDEMER
Construction started in 1922 and finishing in 1931. It is made from reinforced concrete and 6
million soapstone tiles. Soapstone is a type of metamorphic rock. The soapstone came from a
quarry in Ouro Preto in eastern Brazil. Christ the Redeemer is 30 metres (98 feet) high,
excluding its 8-metre (26 feet) pedestal. The statue’s arms stretch 28 metres (92 feet) wide. It
weighs 635 metric tons and is the largest Art Deco statue in the world.
Christ the Redeemer was not actually built in Brazil. It was first made in France by French
sculptor Paul Landowski who created the statue in clay pieces. These were then shipped to Brazil
to be remade with reinforced concrete by Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa and French
engineer Albert Caquot.
The statue, made of reinforced concrete clad in a mosaic of thousands of triangular soapstone
tiles, sits on a square stone pedestal base about 26 feet (8 metres) high, which itself is
situated on a deck atop the mountain's summit.
INSIDE CHRIST THE REDEEMER
It is possible to climb up to its head and arms, but this part of the monument is only used for
maintenance and is closed to the public. However, some Brazilian artists and journalist managed to gain
access.
The most famous and traditional way how to reach Christ the Redeemer is by cog train. The train will
take you through Atlantic Forest almost to the top of Corcovado Mountain. The train leaves approximately
every 30 minutes, and the ride up takes 20 minutes.
You can not go inside Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The statue is hollow,
but tourists cannot enter, although there is a staircase inside.you can go inside the chapel underneath
Christ the Redeemer statue. The chapel is located inside the 8-meter (25 feet) high pedestal covered
with black granite.
Every year more than 2 million people visit the famous landmark. To get to the statue, most
people
take the Corcovado train. This is a centenarian eco-friendly electric train that makes its way through
the forest. For years, you had to climb around 200 steps from the train station to reach the statue.
However, in 2003, officials installed a series of escalators and elevators to make the journey easier.
In May 2014, Lee Thompson was granted the very rare opportunity to climb up the inside of Brazil's
"Christ the Redeemer" statue which stands high above the city of Rio de Janeiro.
