The Great Wall of China is one of the greatest sights in the world — the longest wall in the world, an
awe-inspiring feat of ancient defensive architecture. Its winding path over a rugged country and steep
mountains take in some great scenery.Great Wall of China is titled one of the 'Seven Wonders of the
Medieval World' and it is also included in the 'New 7 Wonders of the World'. Both of the two honors
indicate how the monument has influenced greatly human civilization and world history. The length of the
Great Wall of China is 21,196.18 km (13,170.7 mi), half the equator!.
The Great Wall stretches across North China from east to west for over 6,000 kilometers. It extends from
the shanhai pass at the seaside in the Hebei province in the east to the Jiayu pass in Gansu province in
the west. The sites of the Great Wall stretch across 15 provinces of China.
But since the great wall in Beijing is very long and protected well while most of the great walls in
other China areas are not kept well and opened for tourists, it is commonly thought Beijing is the only
place to see the Great Wall.
YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS THIS AN UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE
The Simatai section of the Great Wall is one of the few sections to
retain its original appearance of the Great Wall. It’s very varied in makeup. Simatai has many
characteristics of other Great Wall sections and some unique features of its own. It's not the only but
the best section open for a night tour.
The whole night walking tour can be done comfortably in 1½ – 2hours. You only need 10 minutes’ walk
or so to reach the cable car station from your hotel. Buy round-way cable car tickets for access. The
cable car takes about 5 minutes, and then walking up to the Great Wall (the 5th watchtower) takes about
a further 15 minutes.
LET US TAKE YOU ON A VIRTUAL TOUR OF THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA
The Great Wall of China was constructed from the 7th Century BC by the Chu State and lasted until
1878 in the Qing Dynasty. The most remaining we see today was built in the Ming Dynasty about
600 years ago.
Most of the (restored) Great Wall sections we see today were built with bricks, and cut stone
blocks/slabs. Where bricks and blocks weren't available, tamped earth, uncut stones, wood, and
even reeds were used as local materials.Wood was used for forts and as an auxiliary material.
Where local timber wasn't enough, they had it delivered in.
The Great Wall of China’s history began in the Spring and Autumn Period (771–476 BC). The
first-ever section of the ‘Great Wall’ was first built in the Chu State over a period of 24
years (680–656 BC). Afterward, new ‘Great Wall’ sections were built or rebuilt on their old
sites to resist the invasion from neighboring states and later the northern nomads and nations,
lasting over 2,300 years.Among these 9+ dynasties of the Great Wall building, the Qin and Ming
Great Walls played much more significant roles in history.
Walk along the Wall
Being much less crowded than Badaling, Mutianyu section of the Great Wall is most popular among foreign
travellers. It is only 75km away from Beijing downtown, and offers great landscape of well-preserved
walls and towers as well as beautiful surrounding greenery. Its road steps are also well paved.
Mutianyu’s tourists facilities rank only second to Badaling, and overmach all other sections of Great
Wall.
Jinshanling Great Wall is believed as the most beautiful among all sections of Great Wall. It is
one of the best-preserved sections of Great Wall either, featuring in steep stairs, ornate and dense
towers which afford sweeping views of the Wall as it snakes into the horizon. Jinshanling is well away
from the crowds as well as Beijing’s possible smog. Tourists can enjoy a delighted hiking experience
along the walls where blue skies meet a green rolling landscape. A medium level of fitness isdemanded
for Jinshanling Great Wall. Cable car is optional if you just want a leisure sightseeing.
